Untalented Challenge Week 1

Week one of the Untalented Challenge is almost complete.  For those unaware of what I am doing please refer to L2P Episode 13 for the full conversation between Shaun and myself that led to this challenge or continue reading.  This challenge emerged when Shaun and I were chatting in Vent last weekend while I was leveling my hunter alt in WoW.  Neither of us can tell you what exactly spurred the challenge, but here were the terms:

Quick Recap of My Dominion Experience

Today was the first opportunity I had to play League of Legends: Dominion since they announced that they would be doing the Off-Peak Beta for it on the live client.  Once again the team at Riot Games has managed to surpass my expectations of the MOBA genre.  When I first got into League of Legends, I only had a small amount of experience with Defense of the Ancients (DOTA), the custom map for Warcraft 3 upon which all of these other MOBA’s are built.  Between the learning curve of the game and the learning curve of the playerbase’s propensity towards hating out new players, DOTA was not an enjoyable experience for me.  But the way in which Riot managed to foster more understanding among players through the tutorials and the Summoner’s Code (essentially a User End License Agreement for conduct and ethics) gave me a good foothold in the genre and allowed me to develop as a player.

With Dominion, Riot has managed to not only prove that the PvP Arena style isn’t limited to Summoner’s Rift, but that they can improve upon the formula by changing the very core of the mechanics.  The game was fast, frantic, and had me on the edge of my seat the entire time.  There does not appear to be any buffer where you can spread out just enough to win and not risk anything, making turtling nearly impossible, and the game rarely seemed bleak enough that we could not win it.  The capture points come and go so frequently that even being down all five points doesn’t mean an automatic loss.  In fact, we were able to win the game despite having lost all of our points.  We came back from them being somewhere like 90% to our 45%.

In closing, I highly recommend you get your account for League of Legends by clicking below and play Dominion NAO!

Pro Tour Philadelphia & The Ladies

We’re only a week and a half out from Pro Tour Philadelphia and with us being Philly natives you bet your buns we’re going to be there. Quite possibly the coolest thing about the PT is the opportunity to pick the brains of some of the most well known ladies in the community like Lauren Lee (mulldrifting), Carrie Oliver (breakout female pro), and Megan Holland (the one and only MTGMom).

We also might be able to get the coverage on GatheringMagic courtesy of the gracious MJ Scott. This is going to be quite the Pro Tour indeed. We are looking forward to seeing all the action and excitement and we’ll see you there.
